This would have been the the eighth time that Oakley Kansas has hosted a National Contest. The first time Oakley hosted the national was 1975 at the Rodger Hockersmith Farm. The contest was held in 1977 at the Rodger Hockersmith Farm, in 1980 at the Rodger Hockersmith Farm, in 1986 at the Bill and Don Swart Farm, in 1985 at the Terry and Betty Hockersmith Farm, in 2004 at the Gary and Raelene Keller Farm, and 2010 at the at the Gary and Raelene Keller Farm. The Keller Farm is located next to the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center on the west edge of Oakley Kansas.
